My Love of Theatre
Performing has always been a part of me. As Davy Jones once said, “There’s an audience for everything.”(brainyquotes.com). I started at a very young age searching for my audience. My mother said as an infant, I would make every environment a place to entertain people. She said that I would smile, sing and perform for people while I sat in the shopping cart at the store. At five years old, I happily volunteered to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at a Slippery Rock Slider’s game. I loved seeing the crowd smile and hearing them cheer. My parents noticed a gift in me at a very young age and began to search for ways to help my talent grow. I live in a town that does not offer much in theatre but my parents were able to find me a voice coach. I started voice lessons on my eighth birthday. This was the best present I could have received. From that day on, I have been able to receive instruction in several areas of the arts such as acting, musical theatre, dance, and acting workshops.
The year 2010 was a big year for me in theatre development. Not only did I begin to receive instruction in the arts but I also began to perform on stage. One of my first experiences on stage was performing in Missoula Children’s Theatre “Alice in Wonderland”. I was the Flying Fish. I can remember being in costume, the lights going up and the overwhelming joyful feeling I felt as I acted out my lines. I became the Flying Fish. From that day on I did whatever I could to find more opportunities to be on stage. As Alicia Witt said, “Acting is magical. Change your look and your attitude, and you can be anyone.”(brainyquotes.com). I find such excitement exploring acting. Not only do I get to dress up and pretend to be that character, I become that character. Being on stage is where I feel my most comfortable and at my happiest. I strive to find every opportunity to be on stage. There is always opportunity to grow and learn more.
I am a Junior Theatre Major at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. I learn acting, dialect and speech, stage movement, make up, memorization, directing, play reading, Shakespeare reading, rhythm and rhyming and other skills necessary to perform during my school day.
